Pushing Past The Fear

Come for the snark and stick around for the mental health insights. Or come for the mental health information and stick round for the snark. Either way is good with me!

Welcome!

If you've found this, hopefully you'll stick around. Come for the snark and stick around for the mental health insights. Or come for the mental health information and stick round for the snark. Either way is good with me! I'm Anne, elder Millenial, therapist, parent, partner, athlete, and late-diagnosed ADHD human. I'm a New York Licensed Mental Health Counselor with Diagnostic privilege (LMHC-D), and just under 20 years of experience in the field. I'm an NPR junkie who's also semi-permanently online, which may or may not be a good thing in this current climate.

I started this page after realizing I have many thoughts about many, many things, and no really good place to put them all. So after much pondering and searching for the best platform, I've settled here.

Why did I title this "Pushing Past The Fear"? Because like many ADHDers, and many other therapists I often convince myself that someone else can do it better/has more experience/has more expertise. In pushing past the fear I'm reminding myself that I have almost 20 years of experience in working with teens and young adults, LGBTQIA+ folx, people living with complex trauma, and neurodivergent folk. While I am not an expert in every area that I'm interested in, I'm at a point in my career where I have to be picky about my continuing education so that I'm not bored. I'm always learning and searching for more information for myself and for my clients.

I approach a lot of my work and writing from an anthropology/sociology lens, looking at all the different systems that shape our experiences, thoughts, responses and expectations. The answer to many versions of "why?" is usually "white supremacy", "the patriarchy", and/or "capitalism". Many of these articles are going to be distillations of what I've been talking to my clients about. In general, there are themes that tend to emerge and I'll find myself having similar conversations over and over again with vastly different clients.

I do plan on having some paid subscription options, as well as resources for sale for other clinicians, or for clients. I am also available for trainings and consultation on my areas of focus.

Take good care of yourselves.
